ગાંધીનગર, ૪ નવેમ્બર, ૨૦૨૬: નેશનલ લાઈવસ્ટોક મિશન હેઠળની પશુધન વીમા સહાય યોજનામાં પશુપાલકો માત્ર રૂ. ૨૨૯ પ્રતિ પશુ ભરીને રૂ. ૪૦,૦૦૦ સુધીનું એક વર્ષનું વીમા કવચ મેળવી શકે છે, કારણ કે પ્રીમિયમના ૮૫% (રૂ. ૧,૩૦૦) રાજ્ય સરકાર ભોગવે છે. ૨૦૨૬-૨૭માં રાજ્યમાં ૧ લાખ પશુઓને આવરી લેવાનો લક્ષ્યાંક છે.
Gujarat aims to insure 1 lakh animals in 2026-27 under the livestock insurance scheme of the National Livestock Mission, protecting herders against the sudden death of an animal, government spokesperson minister Jitu Vaghani said on Wednesday, November 4, 2026.
How the cover works
- You pay: just ₹229 per animal.
- You get: one year's insurance of up to ₹40,000 per animal.
- The state pays: 85% of the premium, ₹1,300 per animal.
- Limit per family: up to 10 large animals (cows, buffaloes, horses, donkeys, camels, bulls, oxen, male buffaloes) or 100 small animals.
The money and the uptake
The Centre has sanctioned ₹250 lakh for Gujarat for 2026-27, of which ₹115 lakh has been released as the first instalment, and the state has approved its own ₹55 lakh livestock insurance aid scheme. Last year 48,695 animals of 12,228 herders were insured. So far this year the i-Khedut portal has received applications for 87,147 animals, and the Animal Husbandry Department plans to cover every eligible one.
Tips for herders
- Insure eligible animals in time, on the i-Khedut portal.
- Keep the animal's identification ear tag in place.
- Give correct details at registration, so a claim is paid quickly.
