Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi handed back money and property recovered by Anand district police to victims of fraud, illegal moneylending and superstition, at a 'Tera Tujko Arpan' ("returning what is yours") programme in Gandhinagar on Wednesday, November 4, 2026.

What was returned

  • A flat worth ₹26 lakh.
  • More than ₹37 lakh in cash and cheques.
  • Original papers for 7 bigha of farmland, a house and a hotel.
  • 8 tola of gold and 400 g of silver.

The cases

  1. A fake export business. A man from Morbi living in Bedva was cheated of ₹26 lakh by someone who promised an import-export venture, bought a flat in Vidyanagar with the money and absconded. The parole-furlough squad traced him and got the flat handed over to the victim.
  2. A widow's loan. The widow of a police inspector in Vidyanagar had lent ₹8 lakh that was never repaid. Police recovered ₹4 lakh in cash and a ₹3 lakh cheque.
  3. Jewellery taken for "rituals". A Jitodiya woman was talked into handing over about 56 tola of gold and silver for Narayan Bali and pitru dosh rites. Police got 8 tola of gold and 400 g of silver back at once, and a notarised undertaking for the rest.
  4. A loan-shark victim saved. A young man in Tarapur, harassed by a moneylender, was on his way to take his life at the Tarapur canal when police intervened and counselled him. They recovered the original mortgage papers for his 7 bigha of land, a ₹2 lakh cheque and seven signed blank cheques. A separate moneylender was booked under the BNS and the Gujarat Money Lenders Act.
  5. House and hotel papers. Acting on a complaint to the Home Department, police recovered a Tarapur resident's house deed, a hotel mortgage deed and nine cheques worth ₹28.50 lakh.
  6. Another widow's money. A widow in Tarapur got ₹1.50 lakh in cash back, and a settlement for the rest, from people her late husband had lent money to.

Sanghavi praised Anand police and said Gujarat Police is always ready to protect citizens' lives and property.

If a moneylender is harassing you: police can book illegal high-interest lending under the Gujarat Money Lenders Act, as Tarapur police did here. Report it at your nearest police station. Browse RERA-registered projects in Anand.
