અમદાવાદ, ૪ નવેમ્બર, ૨૦૨૬: દહેગામના ૩૫ વર્ષીય યુવાનને માર્ગ અકસ્માત બાદ અમદાવાદ સિવિલ હોસ્પિટલમાં બ્રેઈનડેડ જાહેર કરાતાં તેમનાં પત્નીએ અંગદાનની સંમતિ આપી. ૧ લીવર અને ૨ કિડનીના દાનથી ૩ દર્દીઓને નવું જીવન મળ્યું. આ સાથે સિવિલ હોસ્પિટલમાં અંગદાનનો આંકડો ૨૬૦ પર પહોંચ્યો છે.

In the middle of her own grief, the wife of a 35-year-old man from Dehgam in Gandhinagar district agreed to donate his organs, giving three patients a new life and making him Ahmedabad Civil Hospital's 260th organ donor, the Health and Family Welfare Department said on Wednesday, November 4, 2026.

What happened

  • He suffered severe head injuries in a road accident near Dehgam and was taken on October 31 first to Gandhinagar, then to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital.
  • Despite the doctors' efforts, he was declared brain-dead on November 3.
  • The hospital's counselling team explained brain death and organ donation to his wife, who gave written consent.
  • His liver and two kidneys were sent to the Kidney Hospital (IKDRC) on the Civil Medicity campus and transplanted into patients waiting for them.

260 donors so far

Ahmedabad Civil Hospital has now received 1,126 organs and tissues:

  • 864 organs: 480 kidneys, 234 livers, 83 hearts, 34 lungs, 25 pancreases, 6 hands and 2 small intestines.
  • 262 tissues: 210 corneas and 52 skin donations.

Medical superintendent Dr. Rakesh Joshi said one timely decision after brain death can save several families, and called for more awareness about organ donation.
