વડોદરા, ૨ નવેમ્બર, ૨૦૨૬: દિવાળી દરમિયાન ખોરાક અને ઔષધ નિયમન તંત્રએ વડોદરા ગ્રામ્ય વિસ્તારમાં ૬૩ નમૂના લીધા, ૧૭૬ ખાદ્યચીજોનું સ્થળ પર પરીક્ષણ કર્યું અને ૫૮ કિલો અખાદ્ય જથ્થાનો નાશ કર્યો. બીજી તરફ ખેડા-નડિયાદમાં 'ઝીરો પ્રિઝર્વેટિવ'ના ખોટા દાવાવાળી કુકીઝ અને હલકી ગુણવત્તાના અખરોટ માટે ઉત્પાદક સહિતના પક્ષકારોને કુલ ₹૮.૫ લાખનો દંડ થયો.

Two sets of food-safety actions in central Gujarat were announced on Monday, November 2, 2026: a festive-season inspection drive across rural Vadodara, and penalties in Kheda district against a food manufacturer for a misleading label and a substandard product.

Rural Vadodara: the Diwali drive

The Food and Drugs Control Administration, Vadodara (Rural), ran an intensive drive from October 12 to 27, 2026 to keep adulterated and unhygienic food off the shelves during Diwali.

  • 63 samples sent for testing: 19 of mawa and sweets, 21 of namkeen, 4 of ghee, 3 of milk and milk products, 1 of edible oil and 15 of ready-to-eat and other foods.
  • By taluka: Vadodara rural 23, Padra 9, Waghodia 9, Sinor 7, Karjan 5, Dabhoi 5 and Savli 5.
  • A mobile food safety van tested 176 items on the spot, and 90 businesses were inspected.
  • About 58 kg of food found unfit or stored in unhygienic conditions, worth about ₹7,785, was destroyed on site. It included pani puri ragda, reused oil, red sauce, ajinomoto, jaggery, chana dal, rice, green chutney, palak patta chaat and bread sandwiches.
  • Improvement notices are being issued to businesses that do not follow hygiene rules.

Lab results for the 63 samples were not part of the announcement.

Kheda: ₹8.5 lakh in penalties

In Nadiad, Additional District Magistrate and adjudicating officer J.B. Desai imposed penalties under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, in two cases against Mimansa Industries Pvt. Ltd. Both began with samples taken at the company's manufacturing unit by Central Food Safety Officer Pragathish S. (Western Region, Ahmedabad) and tested at the National Food Laboratory, Navi Mumbai.

  • Dark chocolate cookies (800 g), ₹3 lakh: the pack claimed "zero preservative", but the lab found sorbic acid, a preservative. The product was declared misbranded under Section 52. Owner Vishal Bobde and the company were fined ₹1.5 lakh each.
  • Walnut kernels (1 kg), ₹5.5 lakh: damaged and insect-damaged kernels exceeded the permitted limit, so the sample was declared substandard under Section 51. Owner Vishal Bobde was fined ₹2.5 lakh; the company, wholesaler Maruti Enterprise and packer Hansraj Exports were fined ₹1 lakh each.

Both parties were heard and their written submissions considered before the orders, according to the district administration.
