અમદાવાદ, ૧ નવેમ્બર, ૨૦૨૬: રાષ્ટ્રીય એકતા દિવસની ઉજવણી નિમિત્તે અમદાવાદના વીર સાવરકર સ્પોર્ટ્સ કોમ્પ્લેક્સ ખાતે 'ફિટ ઇન્ડિયા – સન્ડેઝ ઑન સાયકલ'ની ૯૭મી આવૃત્તિ યોજાઈ. ભારતીય રમતગમત પ્રાધિકરણ (SAI)ના ગાંધીનગર પ્રાદેશિક કેન્દ્રના આયોજનમાં NCC કેડેટ્સ સહિત ૫૦૦થી વધુ લોકોએ સાયકલ સવારી, ઝુમ્બા અને પરંપરાગત રમતોમાં ભાગ લીધો.
More than 500 people turned out on Sunday, November 1, 2026 for the 97th edition of Fit India – Sundays on Cycle at the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex in Ahmedabad. The Sports Authority of India (SAI) Regional Centre, Gandhinagar organised the ride with the Fit India Movement and MY Bharat as part of the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) celebrations.
NCC cadets and staff from units across Gujarat made up a large share of the riders, joined by cycling enthusiasts and residents. Sahila Sainson, Assistant Director of the SAI Regional Centre, Gandhinagar, attended.
More than a ride
- The morning opened with a Zumba session, followed by chess, foosball, ludo, badminton and volleyball.
- A Fit India Games Zone introduced participants to traditional Indian games.
- Organisers spread the BRICS sustainable lifestyle message: avoid single-use plastic, save energy, buy local, cut waste and recycle.
- Riders were reminded of the campaign line "Fitness ka dose, aadha ghanta roz": half an hour of activity every day.
NCC staff from 37 Gujarat Battalion, 1 Gujarat Artillery Battery, 1 Gujarat Girls Battalion, 9 Gujarat Battalion, 1 Naval Unit, 1 Gujarat CTC, 1 Gujarat Battalion and 2 Independent Company, Gandhinagar were honoured for their part in the event. Cadets also came from 2 CTC, 2 Air Squadron, 1 Gujarat Boys Battalion and 2 Gujarat Company, Gandhinagar.
About Sundays on Cycle
Union Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya launched the weekly ride in December 2024. SAI runs it under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in every state and union territory at the same time, through its regional centres, training centres and Khelo India centres, with partners including the Cycling Federation of India and MY Bharat. Anyone can join the nearest edition on a Sunday morning.
