પાટણ, ૧ નવેમ્બર, ૨૦૨૬: મુખ્યમંત્રી ભૂપેન્દ્ર પટેલે જીવન જ્યોત ચેરિટેબલ ટ્રસ્ટ સંચાલિત પી.બી. પાટણ જનતા કેન્સર હોસ્પિટલનું ઉદ્ઘાટન કર્યું. અંદાજે ₹૨૨ કરોડના લિનિયક રેડિયોથેરાપી મશીન અને ઉત્તર ગુજરાતમાં પ્રથમ પેટ સ્કેન સુવિધા સાથે હવે પાટણ અને આસપાસના દર્દીઓને કેન્સરની સારવાર માટે અમદાવાદ સુધી જવું નહીં પડે. આયુષ્માન કાર્ડધારકો માટે પેટ સ્કેન નિઃશુલ્ક રહેશે.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated the P.B. Patan Janata Cancer Hospital in Patan on Sunday, November 1, 2026. The hospital is run by the Jivan Jyot Charitable Trust on the campus of its existing Janata Hospital and was built largely with donations; the Chief Minister and other guests felicitated the donors at the opening.

Patan is a major treatment centre for North Gujarat, but until now it had no dedicated cancer care, the Chief Minister said. Patients from Patan and neighbouring districts can now be treated close to home instead of making the trip to Ahmedabad.

What the new hospital offers

  • A linear accelerator (LINAC) for radiotherapy, bought for about ₹22 crore.
  • A PET scan, which the trust says is not available anywhere else in North Gujarat. It will be free for Ayushman card holders.
  • Planned next on the same campus: bone marrow transplant, kidney transplant, robotic surgery and cardiac surgery.

Managing trustee Dr. Pramodbhai Patel said Janata Hospital has so far handled more than 15 lakh outpatient visits, over 1.5 lakh admissions and more than 1 lakh operations, along with over 1.5 lakh CT scans, 50,000 MRIs, 15,000 angiographies and 2,000 angioplasties. It was among the first in the region to offer dialysis, ICU care, a cath lab and neurosurgery.

In his speech, the Chief Minister linked health to lifestyle, warning that stress, diabetes and blood pressure are rising and urging people to adopt yoga, a balanced diet and a tobacco-free life. He also asked residents to save rainwater under the Catch the Rain campaign and plant trees under "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam".
