India has signed 9 free trade agreements (FTAs) with 38 countries, and Gujarat, the country's largest exporting state, is best placed to benefit, the state's Industries and Mines Department said on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. The deals will be a special focus of the 11th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit (VGGS 2027), to be held January 10–12, 2027, with sessions linking Gujarat's industry to overseas markets and curtain-raiser events beforehand.

Gujarat's exports in numbers

  • About 25% of India's merchandise exports.
  • US$110.6 billion of goods exported in FY 2025-26.
  • Exports more than doubled from ₹4.44 lakh crore in FY 2013-14 to ₹9.77 lakh crore in FY 2025-26.
  • US$37.8 billion, about 34% of the state's exports, already goes to India's FTA partners.
  • Import demand in those partner markets for the sectors Gujarat makes is over US$1.08 trillion.

Nationally, India's combined goods and services exports hit a record US$863.1 billion in FY 2025-26, including US$441.8 billion of goods. In April–June 2026, combined exports were estimated at US$232.37 billion, up 11.37% on a year earlier.

Who in Gujarat gains

The department expects the biggest gains in chemicals and petrochemicals, marine products and agro-processed food, gems and jewellery, textiles and garments, and engineering and automobile products, along with traditional health and wellness, digital services and AI. MSMEs, including women-led ones, should find it easier to export textiles, leather goods and handicrafts at competitive prices. Newer FTAs go beyond tariff cuts to cover mobility, digital trade, sustainability, innovation and regulatory cooperation, and India's focus now is on getting businesses to actually use the preferential access.
