ગાંધીનગર, ૨ નવેમ્બર, ૨૦૨૬: પીએમ સૂર્ય ઘર મફત વીજળી યોજના હેઠળ ગુજરાતમાં અત્યાર સુધીમાં ૯.૦૮ લાખ ઘરો પર રૂફટોપ સોલર લાગી ચૂક્યા છે, જેની કુલ ક્ષમતા ૩,૪૦૮ મેગાવોટ છે. માર્ચ ૨૦૨૭ સુધીના ૧૦ લાખના લક્ષ્યાંકનો ૯૦ ટકા ભાગ પૂરો થયો છે. દેશના કુલ રૂફટોપ સોલરમાં ગુજરાતનો હિસ્સો ૧૮.૨૧ ટકા છે, અને SC-ST પરિવારોને માત્ર ૫ ટકા ખર્ચે સોલર મળે છે.

Gujarat has installed 9.08 lakh residential rooftop solar systems under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, with a combined capacity of 3,408 MW, the state's Energy and Petrochemicals Department said on Monday, November 2, 2026. That is 90% of the state's target of 10 lakh homes by March 2027, and 18.21% of all rooftop solar systems installed in India, the largest share of any state.

What a household pays

On top of the central government's financial assistance (CFA), Gujarat tops up the subsidy for small residential consumers:

  • SC and ST households installing a new system of up to 2.18 kWp pay only 5% of the benchmark cost.
  • Other small residential consumers pay 10%.
  • The state pays the rest of the benchmark cost after the CFA and the household's share.
  • For systems up to 6 kW, the state covers ₹2,950 in regulatory charges, and waives the network-strengthening charge and the need to sign a separate net-metering agreement.

Why uptake has been fast

Homes get net metering: the meter records both what the household draws from the grid and what its panels send back. There is no cap linked to the home's connected load, surplus power can be sold, and residential users pay no banking charge.

The bigger picture

As of September 30, 2026, Gujarat's total renewable capacity stood at 55,511 MW, 18.55% of India's. That includes 36,235 MW of solar (21.2% of the national figure) and 17,044 MW of wind (28.8%).
