Subsidy Structure for Residential Households

Under this scheme, the government provides attractive subsidies for the installation of rooftop solar plants:

  • ₹30,000 per kW for installations up to 2 kW.
  • ₹18,000 per kW for the additional capacity beyond 2 kW, up to 3 kW.
  • ₹78,000 is the maximum total subsidy available for systems larger than 3 kW.

Example:
If a household installs a 4 kW system:

  • First 2 kW: ₹30,000 x 2 = ₹60,000
  • Next 1 kW: ₹18,000 x 1 = ₹18,000
  • Total Subsidy = ₹78,000 (maximum cap)

️ Subsidy for Group Housing Societies (GHS) / Resident Welfare Associations (RWA)

For group housing societies and RWAs, the following subsidy is available:

  • ₹18,000 per kW for common facilities, including EV charging stations.
  • Applicable for systems up to 500 kW capacity.
  • The capacity is calculated at 3 kW per house.
  • The upper limit includes rooftop plants installed by individual residents.

Additional Benefit for Special States

For special category states, an additional 10% subsidy per kW is available. This makes solar adoption even more economical for residents in these regions.

Choosing the Right Solar Plant Capacity

Based on the average monthly electricity consumption, the following rooftop solar capacities are recommended:

Average Monthly Electricity Usage Recommended Solar Capacity
0–150 units 1–2 kW
150–300 units 2–3 kW
More than 300 units Above 3 kW

By participating in the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, households can significantly reduce their electricity bills and contribute to a greener, more sustainable future.
